How the Barbie Dogs, Ice Spice, and Nicki Minaj Sparked the Latest TikTok Challenges

Okay, so by now we’ve all seen it on our For You pages. The animated dancing dogs grooving to an Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj mashup. Who are these adorable little animated pets, and where did they come from? We all know at this point that TikTok is the master at putting things together that we never even imagined, and so this trend should come as no surprise (though bringing back the Barbie dogs was actually quite a surprise because we haven’t seen those two since the 2000s). If you’re wondering where the Barbie Dogs originate from, the answer to that would be the 2008 film Barbie and The Diamond Castle.

So here’s what TikTok did. Someone created a mashup of Ice Spice’s “In Ha Mood” to the beat of Nicki Minaj’s “Check It Out.” From there, a TikTok creator decided they would use a dance routine that the Barbie Dogs do in Barbie & The Diamond Castle. Oh, and it gets even better. Somebody else on TikTok discovered that the Barbie Dogs are apparently doing the final dance routine from Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” Something we all apparently failed to notice when the movie was first released. That said, there’s no real challenge to this trend.

All you have to do is come up with a funny scenario that would be realistic for you and your best friend and let the Barbie Dogs take over. Here’s some of our favorites. Here's some of our favorites.
