Love has no price, but for a few bucks a bit of personal musical romance can be acquired for Valentine’s Day.

Augusta’s Garden City Chorus is featuring its Singing Valentines for the 34th year. One of the chorus’ barbershop quartets will don tuxedos and serenade the recipient of your choice in the metro Augusta-Aiken area Feb. 14.

A basic Singing Valentine includes two romantic songs, a rose and a personal message from the sender. The proceeds help support the chorus’ musical mission and help fund educational scholarships.

That package costs $75. Upgrades include naming the precise time of the serenade, guaranteed within 30 minutes of the appointed time; and upping the number of roses to 12. The most popular package features serenades, a dozen roses and the quartet’s selection of the performance time.

"In 16 years of marriage I have never gotten as wonderful a surprise as the Singing Valentine I got at my office this morning,” one woman posted on the website. “I was dazzled and I smiled so much my ears hurt.”

The group has offered the serenade fundraiser since the early 1990s, but suspended it briefly for the COVID-19 pandemic. The chorus brought back the Singing Valentines in 2023.

Founded in 1963, the chorus is affiliated with the 18,000-member Barbershop Harmony Society, based in Nashville, Tenn.
