Barbra Streisand Called Apple CEO to Change How Siri Says Her Name

Barbra Streisand has been living a nightmare. For decades people have been mispronouncing her name, putting a z sound where the second s is in her last name. This travesty came to a head when Streisand asked Siri (on her iPhone) how to pronounce her last name. Siri answered back, pronouncing it “StreiZand.”

Streisand was on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon asked Siri the same question while on the air and held his phone to the microphone so everyone could hear Siri’s response. Once again, Siri answered incorrectly.

But this problem will not be around much longer. Streisand called Apple CEO Tim Cook and was told Siri will be updated Sept. 30, after which “Streisand” will be pronounced correctly, at least on an iPhone. It’s up to Streisand to get the word out to actual people to start saying her name correctly, but that may prove difficult.

Of people’s pronunciation of her last name, she said, “I mean, 50 years already. Don’t you know how to say my name right?”
