Barack Obama Arrives in Milan for Climate Speech, Meeting with Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi
Former President Barack Obama touched down in Milan, Italy, on Monday, kicking off a two-day trip in which he will meet with former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and also discuss climate change at a conference.
Obama looked relaxed and casual in sunglasses and a white button-down shirt without a tie as he greeted hundreds of supporters gathered outside the Park Hyatt Hotel where he is staying.
The former president is scheduled to meet privately with Renzi, his close ally while in office, before attending a dinner hosted by the Institute for International Political Studies.
Obama also fit in some sightseeing on Monday, touring the Milan Cathedral and visiting the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, an Ambrosian art gallery within a historic library.
The visit comes one day after Obama accepted the 2017 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in Boston and gave a speech urging Senate Republicans to “so what they believe deep in their hearts is right” and save the Affordable Care Act.

On Tuesday, Obama will give a keynote speech on another of his signature presidential issues, climate change, at the Seeds and Chips Global Food Innovation Summit in Milan.

The speech comes as his successor, President Trump, is reportedly weighing whether to pull the U.S out of the Paris climate agreement, which Obama has hailed as the “best possible shot to save the one planet we’ve got.”
