Be Water and We Gon’ Be Alright filmmaker Bao Nguyen and GoFundMe have teamed for Together, a short film about the history and terrible present of anti-Asian racism in America. Ken Jeong, Olivia Munn, Lisa Ling and others appear in the three-minute, black-and-white film tied to the #StopAsianHate movement. Watch it above.

Simu Liu, Akemi Look, Khalif Boyd, Lacy Lew Nguyen, Winston Duke, Diana Barbadillo and Vivian Bang also appear in the pic written and directed by Bao Nguyen. Carolyn Mao and Brian Yang are the producers, and Jeff Chang and Sahra V. Nguyen co-wrote the project.

“There has been a lot of darkness surrounding us lately,” the filmmaker wrote on Instagram today. “From the seemingly everlasting pandemic, the murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Daunte Wright, and countless black bodies throughout our history, to the uprise of violence and vitriol against our AAPI community, many of us feel hopeless in this darkness. However, as activist Valerie Kaur once asked, “What if this is not the darkness of the tomb but the darkness of the womb?” We try our best in these times to shine a light but it’s hard to do it alone. Today, I’m honored to premiere “TOGETHER”, a project that came together very quickly but carried so much meaning to me. For months, I’ve felt helpless in many ways but now, I’ve found my way to channel my energy to help carry the stories of our past and try to uplift our communities for the future. Thank you all for watching and please visit gofundme.com/aapi (also in my profile link) to find out how we can stand with and speak out together to #stopasianhate and uplift our communities.”
