Baltimore Mayor Welcomes Baby Boy, Charm, After Proposing to Girlfriend on Christmas

Brandon Scott and now-fiancée Hana Pugh chose to name their child after "Charm City" even before finding out the sex

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott had an exciting holiday, proposing to his girlfriend Hana Pugh on Christmas day, shortly before the couple welcomed a baby boy.

Scott, 39, announced that he and Pugh were expecting a baby in a post shared to social media in July. "#Baltimore Baby Charm is on the way and will be arriving Winter 2024!" Scott said in captioning the post. "Will Charm be a boy or a girl?"

The child's name, Charm, is an affectionate nod to one of Baltimore's monikers, "Charm City."

On Christmas, the first-term mayor announced in another post that the couple were engaged. And just one day later, the two were parents to a new son.

Scott shared the happy news of his son's birth on Instagram and in a statement to PEOPLE on Wednesday, saying: “Last night, we were blessed with the healthy and safe arrival of baby Charm. Both Hana and Charm are doing great, and we are very excited for this next chapter in our lives."

"I'm looking forward to the new adventure of being a dad and continuing the work ahead to keep building the Baltimore that Charm — and we all — deserve. Thank you to everyone who has sent love and well wishes," Scott added.

Baby Charm was delivered at 7:31 p.m. on Dec. 26, weighing 6 pounds, 14 ounces.

Scott has served as the mayor of Baltimore since 2020 and previously served as president of the Baltimore City Council. He was also a candidate for lieutenant governor of Maryland in 2018.

Afro News reports that Pugh works as an operations director at the nonprofit organization Bmore Empowered and has a 7-year-old son from a previous relationship.
