Some movie tropes, especially action movie tropes, are simply unimpeachable. Seeking redemption for a dead friend? Heroes trying to clear their names? Not knowing “how high up this s*** goes?” All perfect, all timeless, and all a part of the first trailer for Bad Boys: Ride or Die starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

Miami’s best are back on the job in the Bad Boys franchise’s fourth installment. Even after all these years their days are still full of high-speed chases, shootouts, beautiful woman, evil men, and dramatic camera pans. Only this time, Mike and Marcus will end up on the other side of the law as they try and uncover who is framing their late captain, Joe Pantoliano’s Conrad Howard. (He appears via a video he recorded prior to his death, another classic perfect movie trope!)

While Captain Howard might be dead, his killer is not. Jacob Scipio’s Armando is also back and appears in the Bad Boys: Ride or Die trailer. He might just earn his father’s redemption by helping the bad boys uncover the truth about who is trying to bring down the men behind the recently established AMMO. We doubt Armando will be much help with Reba McEntire lyrics, but you never know. Her fandom really does span generations.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die comes from the directing duo behind Bad Boys For Life, Adil & Bilall. Chris Bremer, who is also one of the writers credited for the previous film’s script, is responsible for the screenplay. The film also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nuñez, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Melanie Liburd, Tasha Smith, and Tiffany Haddish.

Mike and Marcus’s run for freedom, redemption, and revenge will hit the road this summer. Bad Boys: Ride or Die comes to theaters this on June 7. Hopefully that day we learn the movie has even more timeless action movie tropes than we already know about.
