Bad Boys for Life” directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have been tapped to helm DC’s upcoming “Batgirl” movie at Warner Bros.

Christina Hodson penned the script for the new superhero film, centered on Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. Hodson, who wrote the screenplays for “Bumblebee” and “Birds of Prey,” also penned the script for DC’s upcoming “Flash” movie.

The “Batgirl” pic is being planned for HBO Max and is produced by Kristin Burr. The character, famously played by the late Yvonne Craig, was initially introduced as part of the “Batman” TV series in 1967. Batgirl’s last big-screen appearance was in 1997’s “Batman & Robin,” with Alicia Silverstone taking on the role.

El Arbi and Fallah most recently directed the third installment of the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-starring franchise to a box office-busting $426 million in worldwide ticket sales.

After the success of “Bad Boys,” El Arbi and Fallah were hired as co-showrunners of Disney-Marvel’s “Ms. Marvel” series. The duo also directed multiple episodes of the show, which is set to debut on Disney Plus. Last week, Variety exclusively reported that the series — centered on the Muslim American teen-turned-superhero Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani) — has wrapped production.

In 2018, El Arbi and Fallah were named to Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch list (alongside now Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao, Greta Gerwig, Joseph Kahn, Carlos López Estrada and more), where they threw their hat in the ring to direct “Bad Boys 3.”

El Arbi and Fallah are repped by CAA, Management 360 and Jackoway Austen.

THR was first to report the news that the duo will direct the project.
