Backstreet Boys and Katy Perry Songs Can’t Win ‘Lip Sync Battle’ for Rachel Bloom

Despite performing some of pop music’s biggest power hits, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom couldn’t pull out the Lip Sync Battle win from Boardwalk Empire star Michael Shannon.

Bloom opened with the Backstreet Boys’s “I Want It That Way” and wasn’t afraid to get up close and personal with the audience. Shannon opted for a song way less likely to be performed at your local karaoke bar, the Pixies’s “Here Comes Your Man.”

For Round 2, Bloom went with Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” donning a high school marching band uniform and some fake zits. She danced and mouthed her nerdy way into the hearts of the audience and even got saucy with a nerdy fellow hiding behind some hunky football players. (Don’t be fooled: They were all actually super-hunky professional dancers.)

But Shannon’s spot-on sync and post-apocalyptic dance routine of R.E.M.’s super-wordy 1987 hit “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)” was the ultimate winner. When LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen expressed sheer amazement at the fact that he knew “every word,” Shannon chalked it up to a lot of time spent in his teenage bedroom just trying to “keep up with the lyrics.”
