Backbeat: BMI Dinner With ‘Milius,’ ‘Twenty Feet From Stardom’ ‘Our Nixon’ Directors and Composers at SXSW Film

 

BMI was host to its annual SXSW dinner Sunday at Manuel’s that brings together directors, composers members of the media where the conversation generally concerns the quality of the films screening the anticipated premieres.

“Milius” composer Danny Sternbaum was among those on hand whose film, a documentary on the director John Milius, had already premiered and started to generate buzz. “Twenty Feet From Stardom” director Morgan Neville arrived straight from the airport and was getting the word out about a Friday screening of his film that will two of its subjects, the singers Darlene Love and Judith Hill, on hand to chat and perform.

Stephen Silha and Eric Slade, the directors of “Big Joy: The Adventures of James Broughton,” dropped in after their film screened Sunday afternoon.
