Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo, who got engaged during her season of The Bachelorette, are divorcing after four years of marriage.

Abasolo filed a petition for divorce in Los Angeles on Tuesday and cited irreconcilable differences, according to CNN and other media reports. The pair, who met during the taping of the ABC dating series’ season 13 that aired in 2017, do not have any children.

“After more than 4 years of marriage, Rachel and I have made the difficult decision to part ways and start anew,” Abasolo posted to Instagram on Tuesday. “My parents have been married forever and I’m a family man, but sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you must let go.”

In an Instagram message over the New Year’s Day weekend that was posted prior to Tuesday’s filing, Lindsay wrote, “Definitely one of the hardest years of my life, but choosing to focus on grateful moments and carrying that energy into 2024.”

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Lindsay’s representatives for comment.

She was first introduced to the Bachelor franchise as a contestant on the Nick Viall-led season 21 of The Bachelor that aired in 2017, with the attorney from Dallas ending up in third place. That year, she was announced as the first Black lead of The Bachelorette, with Lindsay accepting Abasolo’s marriage proposal during her season finale. The pair tied the knot in August 2019.

Lindsay has pursued a media career following her stint as the Bachelorette. She hosted the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, which is produced by the ABC franchise, for 100 episodes before announcing her exit in 2021. This followed her critical comments about how producers handled season 25 of The Bachelor, featuring Matt James as that show’s first Black lead.

She departed Extra in 2023 after three years as an on-air correspondent and currently co-hosts the podcast Higher Learning with Van Lathan.

The Bachelorette has had trouble finding long-term success for its couples in recent years. Following season 12 star JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers, who got married in 2022, every subsequent lead of The Bachelorette has split from the winner of their season, with the exception of Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko, who got engaged during the season 20 finale that aired in August.
