The Bachelor Recap: Fantasy Suites Week Ends on a Bad Note for Joey

It’s fantasy suites time on The Bachelor, and Joey is officially falling in love with all three of his women — but a mysterious note is about to make his heart drop.

More from TVLine

Monday’s episode kicks off with a flash-forward to the drama, with Joey receiving a hand-written note that says simply, “We need to talk.” Joey’s thoughts turn dark: “This is like my worst nightmare coming true.” But who wrote the note?? That answer will have to wait, because first, we travel to sunny Tulum, Mexico, where Joey is preparing for intimate fantasy suite dates with his three remaining ladies: Rachel, Kelsey (formerly known as Kelsey A.) and Daisy.

He knows he has a big decision to make, and the women are feeling the pressure, too. Daisy says things are getting “super super serious,” and Kelsey reminds us that she hasn’t told Joey she’s falling in love with him yet — but she wants to. Rachel feels like she and Joey have a special connection, but she’s still having “an inner battle” about opening up to him. “It’s do or die time,” she declares.

So how did their dates go? And who wrote that freaking note? Read on to get all the answers, along with a full recap of the highlights from fantasy suites week.

Since all the women are fretting about Joey’s true feelings, the Bachelor producers send in reinforcements. It’s the Golden Bachelor ladies! (Man, are they making a living off this franchise or what?) Susan stops by to give Rachel a pep talk, encouraging her to open up to Joey: “If you love him, be vulnerable. Let your guard down.” And Joey senses this, too, noting that Rachel isn’t as “emotionally available” as the other girls before their date. They head into the jungle together and dive into a lagoon from a tall wooden platform. It’s a literal leap of faith, in case you didn’t get the metaphor. But maybe that faith was misplaced: When they dive off of the tallest platform, Rachel hits her face hard on the water. She says she’s fine, but Joey insists on having a doctor look at her, and they even go to the hospital to get X-rays on her jaw. Is this a bad omen?

Her X-rays come back clean, though, and they head off to dinner. Rachel still feels like she “ruined” their date, but Joey reassures her that it wasn’t her fault. She also admits that she’s closed off emotionally because she’s been cheated on before, and when Joey thanks her for sharing, she breaks down in sobs. He gives her a comforting hug, and they decide to check out the fantasy suite, sharing a Champagne toast and a kiss on the bed. The next morning, they wake up in bed together, and Joey tells her how happy he is with “how much more you opened up.” Rachel tells us they “definitely got closer,” and Joey says he’s falling for her. But how far is he falling, hmmm?

Kelsey

Kelsey

Kelsey gets a Golden Bachelor visit from runner-up Leslie, and the two of them share a sweet bond because they both lost their mothers in their 20s. Leslie warns Kelsey, though, that she felt confident with Gerry, but “I didn’t get chosen.” She encourages her to prepare herself for rejection, and it gives Kelsey pause. Now she’s “freaking out and terrified” when she and Joey go out on a boat on their date, taking a spin around the harbor. They’re very giggly and kissy together as they go swimming with turtles and stingrays, but Kelsey is scared to tell him she loves him because she’s not sure he’ll choose her.

She confesses her fears to Joey at dinner, and he admits that when he was with Charity on The Bachelorette, “I thought it was me. I was a hundred percent sure.” So he’s a little hesitant to open up to anyone, too. Kelsey tells him she was talking with her dad, and she told him she loves Joey — and so she says it out loud! Joey is thrilled to hear it, and tells her: “I’m falling in love with you, fully.” She’s overjoyed and showers him with kisses, and when the fantasy suite date card arrives, she can’t say yes fast enough. They make out in the suite’s private pool, and in the morning, Kelsey is positively glowing as they cook breakfast together. She calls Joey “the man of my dreams”… but she’s still worried about getting her heart broken.

Daisy

Daisy
Daisy

Daisy is emotional as her date with Joey nears, telling us that “it’s not going to be the best me today.” So her Golden Bachelor mentor Sandra arrives to help calm her nerves. She’s falling in love with Joey, and Sandra advises her to talk to him about her fears. So Daisy meets Joey for their date in the jungle, and before they head out, she plants a long, deep kiss on him. They ride four-wheelers together, and Joey loves Daisy’s sense of fun and adventure. But back in her room, Kelsey is stewing about Leslie’s warning, saying that a breakup is “not something I would be able to handle.” Uh-oh. See what you did, Leslie?

After their ride, Daisy admits to Joey that she gets in her own head a little when they’re apart. They enjoy an outdoor shower together before heading to dinner, where Daisy tells him she cried to Sandra about her doubts and overthinking things. Her last boyfriend criticized her for showing emotion, and Joey shares that he, too, feels insecure about being accepted for who he is. They share a warm hug, with Daisy adding: “Falling in love with you is fun… You’ve honestly changed my life.” (Aw!) He responds by telling her he’s falling in love with her. So he’s falling in love with all three? And told Daisy the same thing he told Kelsey, nearly word for word? OK, then!

Daisy says yes to the fantasy suite, and they kiss as thunder rolls in the distance. They wake up in bed together, gazing into each other’s eyes, and say a sweet goodbye. But Kelsey is still struggling with her doubts: “If it’s not me, I don’t think it’s something I could get over.” She knocks on Joey’s door to talk, but he’s not there, so… she writes him a note! Yes, Kelsey is the author of the infamous “We need to talk” note, signing it and leaving it wedged in Joey’s hotel room door. When he finds it, he’s confused. He doesn’t know what went wrong with him and Kelsey. “I don’t want her to leave. I want her to be here.” Now it’s triggering all of his insecurities… and then we’re hit with a “To be continued…”

Next week: The Women Tell All! But we’ll also get some resolution to the Kelsey drama, with her and Joey sitting down for an important talk — which leaves Joey in tears. Plus, we get another look at the finale, with Joey looking devastated and storming off during the final rose ceremony.
