Baby Shower Guest Gets Mad at Mom-to-Be for Photoshopping Her Kid Out of Photos He Wasn't Meant to Be In

Redditors were split on who was at fault for the baby shower blunder

A baby shower's guest of honor found herself at odds with a friend over photos from the event.

The mom-to-be explained the situation on Reddit's AITA subreddit, where she explained that she "tried really hard to make it a women’s only event in the beginning."

She said that many of her guests "started inviting along their husbands/boyfriends and their children. Finally, I said whatever to avoid conflict and I had my fiancé come to the shower as well."

The original poster (OP), whose 5-month-old son was also at the event, said the issue came when it was time to open gifts from her guests.

"When it came time to open presents, I had told my son previously that he could help me open some for his baby brother and I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some really cute photos of me, my son, and my fiancé in front of the balloon arch and decorations," she explained.

"Another little boy (6 months) who is close with my son eagerly asked his mom, 'Can I open presents too?!' to which his mom replied, 'Oh! That sounds like a great idea! Go ask OP.'"

The expectant mom said, "When the little boy ran up to me, I didn’t know how to tell him no."

"My mom and my friend tried speaking to his mom quietly without the kid hearing, but she insisted, 'OP wouldn’t mind. My son is a sweet kid, he’d be so happy doing the presents.'"

OP was uncomfortable in the situation but emphasized, "To be clear NOTHING was said in front of the child or with him being able to hear."

As a result, "that kid was able to open most of my presents and was in every photo. Nobody got any photos of just me and my small family because this kid would not leave my son's side."

The expectant mom decided to "bite my tongue and suck it up," acknowledging it wasn't the little boy's fault he wanted to be with his friend.

When she made some changes to one of the photos of the day, however, she heard from the boy's mom.

"[I] later used Photoshop to remove the other kid so I could have a photo of just me, my son, and my fiancé. The mother is very upset with me saying I shouldn’t have removed her son from the photos and that it hurts her feelings I would so easily exclude her son," she shared, asking if she was wrong for doing so.

Many commenters agreed with OP, noting that the guest's expectations were unreasonable. "The other mother is out of line and needs to develop some common sense," one commenter wrote.

"You’re too nice, I would’ve booted that kid away after he opened one present. It’s not her event, her child has no right to be involved at all."

However, others blame OP for creating the situation by not sticking to her original boundaries. "You had a clear vision of the way you wanted it to happen and you were too intimidated to tell a child, 'I'm sorry, this is not for you,'" another commenter said.

"If this had been your son's birthday, would you have left the other boy open the presents because you were too — what? Weak, embarrassed —to say no? What's so hard about speaking up? Time to start growing a spine."
