Béla Fleck is kicking off the concerts in August at The Narrows Center for the Arts

FALL RIVER — It's busy at the Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., in August, with nights of diverse concerts and events.

From nationally acclaimed acts to local favorites, there is something for everyone to enjoy:

Upcoming concerts at the Narrows

Aug. 2: Béla Fleck My Bluegrass Heart ft. Michael Cleveland, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz, Bryan Sutton. Just in case you aren't familiar with Béla Fleck, there are many who say he's the premiere banjo player in the world. Others claim that Béla has virtually reinvented the image and the sound of the banjo through a remarkable performing and recording career that has taken him all over the musical map.

Aug. 4: Jesse Cook. An accomplished guitarist, producer, and equally prolific filmmaker, Jesse Cook has evolved his talents to create experiences that delight audiences both in concert, and online.

Aug. 10: Patty Griffin. Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together.

Aug. 11: Cowboy Mouth. The New Orleans-born Cowboy Mouth uses a potent blend of musical ingredients to create their tunes.

Aug. 12: Calexico Feast of Wire 20th Anniversary Tour. In early 2003, Calexico released their seminal album "Feast of Wire," the album that truly marked the duo’s critical and commercial breakthrough. Beginning in June, the band will play a series of headline shows across the year performing the landmark album in full as well as a slew of songs from the band’s repertoire.

Aug. 17: Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band. Grammy-award winner and six-time Grammy nominee, Peter Rowan is a bluegrass singer-songwriter with a career spanning over five decades.

Aug. 18: Honey Island Swamp Band. From the pristine waters of the Honey Island Swamp to the vibrant streets of New Orleans, to the hazy corner of Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, this band has endured devastation, relocation, and revitalization.

Aug. 19: Pousette Dart Band. Jon Pousette-Dart is best known as an American classic and folk rock songwriter, musician, and performing artist.

Aug. 25: NRBQ. NRBQ is Terry Adams, Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough, and John Perrin. “NRBQ,” which stands for New Rhythm and Blues Quartet, has has attracted legions of devoted fans worldwide.

Aug. 26: Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore with The Guilty Ones plus special guest Dead Rock West. Roots music legends, the Grammy-winning Dave Alvin and Grammy nominee, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, decided to join forces and play music together in 2017.

Aug. 27: Narrows Center Music Festival ft. GA-20, Brian Dunne, Ali McGuirk (FREE). The Narrows Music Festival is back, this time featuring GA-20, Brian Dunne, and Ali McGuirk. Located at the Thomas Norton City Pier on Davol St. from 4 to 8:30 p.m. You can expect a night of stellar music, good vibes, and great fun. Food and beverages will be available to purchase. Feel free to bring a lawn chair or a blanket.

Art Gallery Exhibits at the Narrows

Now through Sept. 1: “Bridges.” Selected Works from the Core Members of Fountain Street Gallery, Boston. In “Bridges,” an exhibition of painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media, twenty-five artists share their interpretations of the theme of building connections.
