The B-52’s singer Kate Pierson gets into the Friday the 13th spirit with her new solo single “Every Day Is Halloween,” co-written by Sia.

“‘Every Day Is Halloween’ is a haunting yet uplifting song about a woman who is dying to be seen! She finally gets to return as an apparition, and all her secrets are finally revealed — and she WILL be seen!” Pierson told Rolling Stone of the single.

“I love this song because it’s very personal to me as a performer who has spent so much of my life in dress-up stage costumes — and hair and makeup! The dividing line between my ‘real self’ and my stage persona — although both are real — is blurred, literally making every day Halloween.”

Pierson and Sia — who also serves as a background singer on the track — previously collaborated together on the B-52’s singer’s 2015 solo album Guitars and Microphones, with Sia co-writing and co-producing nine of the LP’s songs.

“She’s an astounding lyricist and has the pop ears of a siren — her songs call to you and linger — she’s also fun and fast, so working with her is a joy,” Pierson said. “This song was actually the first song we attempted in our writing sessions back in 2014, and we usually collaborated with a third party. In this case, Sam Dixon who played bass in Sia’s band and who also works with Adele. I had some lyrics and title for the song, so we started with a bass line and came up with melodies, and then Sia fine-tuned the lyrics to fit. I remember she added the line ‘When the grave’s unsealed,’ I was like, ‘whoa, that’s really amazing!'”

While the B-52’s have routinely played Halloween shows in the past — Pierson herself has dressed as “a cowgirl, an outer space alien, Poison Ivy, but my favorite of all was my Elvira Halloween impersonation” — the band has no October 31 gig this time around. Instead, the B-52’s will be back onstage in November for the Eighties-geared Darker Waves Festival in Huntington Beach, California, before returning to Las Vegas in April 2024 for their latest residency dates.

“We’re so grateful and happy to be still playing together as the B-52’s,” Pierson added. “I can’t wait to launch  my solo album, but the B-52’s are still the mothership for all our outer limits adventures.”
