Ayo Edebiri Pokes Fun at Past Negative Comments About Jennifer Lopez as They Appear on “SNL”: '24 and Stupid'

'The Bear' actress served as host on 'Saturday Night Live' over the weekend, while the singer appeared as the musical guest

Ayo Edebiri is owning up to past negative comments.

The Bear actress, 28, hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time over the weekend, where she was joined by Jennifer Lopez as the musical guest.

During one sketch, titled "Why'd You Say It?," Edebiri made light of statements she made about Lopez, 54, during a podcast appearance years ago, when she referred to the singer's career as "one long scam."

Portraying someone who defended inappropriate comments she made on the internet, Edebiri's character eventually became frustrated after being called out by the host, played by Kenan Thompson, and admitted her wrongdoing.

"Okay, okay! We get it. It's wrong to leave mean comments or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don't consider the impact because you're 24 and stupid," the Emmy winner said. "But I think I speak for everyone when I say, from now on, we're going to be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online."

Edebiri made the comments about Lopez on a February 2020 episode of Laci Mosley's Scam Goddess podcast.

"Today I was actually thinking about one of my favorite scams of all time because J.Lo is performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show," she said at the time. "Her whole career is one long scam."

After Mosley questioned Lopez's singing abilities, Edebiri continued, "Well, that's the thing. She thinks she's on multiple tracks, but it's not her. I think she thinks that she's still good even though, like, she's not singing for most of these songs."

"A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, 'J.Lo didn't have time to make it to the studio,' like, J.Lo was busy," she added. "It's like, 'Doing what?' Not singing, obviously."

During her hosting gig on SNL, Edebiri became visibly emotional will giving her opening monologue, as she explained how meaningful the moment was for her.

Lopez, meanwhile, served as the evening's musical guest to promote her upcoming album, This Is Me… Now, which will drop on Feb. 16.

The star first performed her upbeat track "Can't Get Enough" with Latto and REDMAN, who both joined her on stage for cameo appearances.

Later in the show, Lopez sang the title track from her forthcoming ninth studio album in an off-the-shoulder floral floor-length gown.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
