'How to Get Away with Murder': Who's the culprit behind the posters?

How to Get Away with Murder kicked off its third season with a bang, revealing that someone we’ve come to know and love (or loathe) will die by season’s end. While viewers will have to wait to discover who, another burning question raised in the premiere will be answered rather quickly: Who’s the culprit behind the posters?

In the season 3 premiere, Annalise’s (Viola Davis) pro-bono legal clinic got off to a rocky start when she discovered a poster with her face on it calling her a killer. It wasn’t long before those posters were all over campus. And while Annalise insinuated that an angry student who didn’t make the cut for the clinic is behind it, something more nefarious could be going on.

“It does feel like it could be anyone who wants to create problems for Annalise,” executive producer Pete Nowalk tells EW. “She’s been through so much worse, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and this could build into a much bigger problem for her.”

With all that Annalise has done throughout the show — and whatever we don’t yet know — the possibilities of who’s out for vengeance are endless. But could one of the Keating Five actually be to blame? “I love that you’re considering that it’s someone doing a double cross,” Nowalk says. “You’ll find out a few episodes in.”

Of the Keating Five, Asher (Matt McGorry) seems a likely suspect since he has plenty of grievances toward Annalise. In the premiere, Annalise turned Asher down for a loan he needed to stay in school — a financial position he blames on her, too; if he never sided with Annalise, his father would still be alive and his mother wouldn’t have cut him off. “We’ve seen generally good-hearted aspects of Asher, aside from the fact that he murdered someone,” McGorry says. “But beyond that, you can’t ever know what people are capable of.”

How to Get Away with Murder airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
