Avril Lavigne Is Single Again, Here's What She Thinks About Love

As Rory Gilmore said, "It's Avril Lavigne's world and we're just living in it." Our favorite Canadian pop princess of the early 2000's, who graced our ears with hits such as "complicated" (who didn't belt that one out in the car?) and "Sk8er Boi," has split up from her most recent boyfriend, Phillip Sarofim.

One can only hope we get a classic Avril Lavigne ballad out of this breakup. The two have been dating for over a year after meeting at a dinner party (meeting at a dinner party? Now that's adulting!)

Avril Lavigne Holds Hands With Mystery Man

She Broke Up With Phillip Sarofim Recently

Her ex-boyfriend is the son of Texan billionaire Fayez Sarofim, so clearly Avril can't really be called a gold digger.

Their last appearance together was way back in June when they went out shopping in L.A.

She's been through many relationships, but the singer has not given up on the idea of love. She recently told People, “I believe in love,” and claimed marriage isn't all that important, saying, “I don’t really care so much about that; I just care about being in a healthy relationship and just being happy.”

She's Had High Profile Marriages In The Past

Her most high-profile relationship was with Chad Kroeger, the lead singer of Nickelback (yes, you're allowed to giggle because for some reason everyone hates Nickelback.) The two remain friends and are still on good terms.

She was also married to Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley until their divorce in 2010.

She recently spoke about her two marriages to USA TODAY, saying, "They're just good people," We had marriages, we lived together, I knew their families, they knew mine, we just stayed close and there's mutual respect. Chad, in particular, we're actually really close, because that was a more recent relationship."

She Still Remains Friends With Her Ex-Husbands

She continued, "He was with me through a lot and is a really protective person in my life. He's still like family. I didn't know that it would be that way, and I'm really glad it is because we were friends and we made music together. We've just kept the friendship and continued having a working relationship, as well."

Even though they were divorced, Chad helped Avril with her recent 2019 album; she used him for his opinions and with help during the recording.

She also told USA TODAY, "He was a really great soundboard," Lavigne says. "I would call him and send him songs to get his opinion, and if I was ever stuck on something, he'd help me out, which is super (expletive) cool, if you think about it. I'd play him songs on FaceTime and he'd be like, 'I'm so proud of you, you did such a good job.' So he just cares about me and wants to see me do well, which is really nice."

So, while Avril has clearly been through many relationships and a couple of marriages, this has not caused her to turn her back on love, even with the most recent breakup. Will she remain friends with Phillip Sarofim as well? Only time will tell!
