Avril Lavigne hit the red carpet in casual combat boots at the annual Academy of Country Music Awards on May 16. Posing alongside ACM New Male Artist of the Year winner Nate Smith, she showed off a pair of classic Dr. Marten boots.
It doesn’t come as a surprise to see the “Complicated” singer donning combat boots on the red carpet as she’s been known for her pop-punk style since rising to fame in the early aughts. Shoe staples for Lavigne throughout the years include clunky black leather boots and sneakers from Converse and Vans. That said, she has also stepped out in pointy stilettos and platform pumps on occasion.
The 59th Academy of Country Music Awards airs live tonight from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, with country legend Reba McEntire hosting for a record 17th time. The show is available to stream for free on Prime Video starting at 8 p.m. ET. Performers include Jelly Roll, Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, and ACM New Male Artist of the Year winner Nate Smith featuring Avril Lavigne and Chris Stapleton.

The Dr. Martens boots Lavigne chose, while not fully visible, appeared to be an elevated version of the brand’s iconic lace-up silhouette. The style is likely the Jadon 8-eye boot ($210) featuring a chunky 2-inch platform, smooth black leather uppers and Dr. Martens’s signature yellow welt stitch.

Dr. Martens’ famous 1460 silhouette, named after its inception date in 1960, was first adopted as a functional workwear boot. However, by the end of the decade, the leather lace-up style became a staple of British working-class culture made popular by The Who’s Pete Townsend.
