Avatar 2 details are still fairly scarce but we've been treated to a few little nuggets of information recently, including a first look at Kate Winslet filming and a glimpse of a brand new sign language for the Na'vi.

The film's producer Jon Landau, who also produced the first Avatar movie and 1997 epic Titanic, has now revealed a sneak peek of the new underwater world by sharing a look at some concept art for the new environment.

Landau shared a photo on Instagram of director James Cameron surrounded by some of the film's cast – including Sigourney Weaver – with concept art images of the underwater world plastered over the walls.

"Snapped this picture of Jim sharing concept art with the cast during our rehearsal period for the Avatar sequels," Landau wrote alongside the photo, which shows pictures of clear blue pools glistening in sunlight, alongside a few moodier, darker shots.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the Avatar sequel since the original movie was released in 2009 and there were plenty who were very excited to get a peek at some potential imagery, with one commenting: "This is sooo cool!" and another writing: "really looking forward to these movies... can't wait!!"

Avatar 2, which is currently due for release in December 2022, will reintroduce us to the moon of Pandora and its inhabitants.

Zoe Saldana will return to her role as Na'vi princess Neytiri, while Sam Worthington will also be back as human-turned-Na'vi Jake Sully.

Also back will be CCH Pounder as Neytiri's mother Mo'at and Matt Gerald as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet. Weaver is also a returnee, although she is expected to be playing a different character in the sequel.

Avatar 2 will also introduce us to a host of new characters, with Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin, Fear the Walking Dead's Cliff Curtis and Nurse Jackie's Edie Falco all joining the cast.

The next Avatar movie, which is set several years after the first, will introduce some new environments, including the underwater world, and we will also meet Neytiri and Jake's children.

Avatar is now available to watch on services including Disney+ and Amazon Prime. Avatar 2 will be released on December 16, 2022 in US and UK cinemas, with Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 expected to follow in December 2024, December 2026 and December 2028 respectively.
