Austin taco joints, DoorDash to offer $5 discounts for ‘Taco Tuesday’ promotion

One of Austin's premier fast-casual Mexican restaurants, Fresa's, will open in Mueller in 2024.

Sept. 12 will be a Taco Tuesday unlike any other.

On that day, taco lovers in Austin and across the U.S. can save on food from over 20,000 Mexican restaurants through DoorDash as part of a promotion by Taco Bell and the popular food delivery service, Taco Bell announced Tuesday.

The promotion celebrates the decision by Taco John’s, a competing taco chain, to vacate its trademark for the "Taco Tuesday" phrase in July. Taco Bell and DoorDash are funding up to $5 million for a “Taco Tab” that enables users to receive discounted orders at participating restaurants.

How can I get free food for Taco Tuesday?

All day Tuesday, DoorDash users can save $5 when they order more than $15 worth of food from participating Mexican restaurants by using the promotion code “TACOTAB” in the DoorDash app or online.

The promotion is only valid for the first 1 million people who order. Users in New Jersey will not be able to participate in the promotion because a business named Gregory’s holds a separate “Taco Tuesday” trademark in the state, according to Taco Bell.

The taco chain also announced it plans to hold more Taco Tuesday promotions in the future.
