"In this brutal world, where you're leading with fear rather than love, who do you look up to?" the actor asks in an exclusive clip

Austin Butler asked himself some tough questions before transforming into his Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen role for the Dune franchise.

In an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, the actor, 32, details how he landed on the look and feel of the ruthless nephew of the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune: Part Two.

"We had more conversations about figuring out, 'Why does Feyd act the way he does?' That led into finding Feyd's voice, which sort of came out of this idea of living with the Baron from a very young age and seeing that this is the man who has power," Butler says in the video.

"This ends up being in this brutal world where you're leading with fear rather than love," he adds. "Who do you look up to, and who do you emulate? That's where that came from."

Also in the clip — which will later be available for Dune fans as part of the movie's digital and at-home releases — director Denis Villeneuve described his own thoughts on Butler's villainous portrayal.

"Austin portrayed a kind of psychotic serial killer that is a cross between a sword master and Mick Jagger," Villeneuve says. "He's really brought something mesmerizing and hypnotic to the screen."

Austin Butler in "Dune: Part Two"

Butler revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in February that he got a chance to touch base with another famous Feyd actor before the film's release.

As Butler explained, he met up with Sting — who played the character in David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of Dune — at the film's New York City premiere. "It was so surreal. My mind was blown. He's the best," Butler said.

"He came up afterward, and he was so, so, lovely and just debonair," he added. "I asked him about [starring in the original] and he said he still has the codpiece from the original [Dune], he said he's going to dry clean it and let me wear it if I want to."

At the time, Butler shared that he "never played a character quite like him, and I didn't want to judge him, so it was a lot of imagining what his childhood was like" to prepare for the role.

Dune: Part Two is on digital Tuesday, April 16, then available to buy on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD May 14.
