Austin Butler, Jodie Comer to be honorary starters for Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS — An Emmy Award-winner and an Academy Award-nominee will be the featured honorary starters at the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500.

According to a news release from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Jodie Comer and Austin Butler, the stars of the upcoming Focus Features film “The Bikeriders,” will wave the green flag at Sunday’s race, presented by Gainbridge.

“Austin and Jodie star in a movie focused on two wheels, but they’re about to experience the exhilaration of 33 of the fastest cars on four wheels as they stand atop the flag stand and wave the green flag to officially start the world’s greatest race,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said in the release. “This is one of the most powerful and exciting moments in all of sports.”

Here’s the starting order for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500

“The Bikeriders,” a film written and directed by Jeff Nichols, follows a Midwestern motorcycle club and is set to be released nationwide on June 21, according to the release, The film also stars Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon.

Butler, most famous for playing Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 film “Elvis,” is a Golden Globe Award-winner who has also starred in “Dune: Part Two” and the Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air.” Comer won an Emmy Award, as well as a BAFTA Award for her portrayal of Villanelle in the BBC America series “Killing Eve” and can be seen in the films “Free Guy” and “The Last Duel.”
