The Auschwitz Memorial has commented on WWE‘s use of Auschwitz image during WrestleMania 39 weekend.

Keen eyes on social media noticed that WWE utilized images of Auschwitz to promote the match between Rey and Dominik Mysterio‘s match at WrestleMania 39 on the kickoff show Saturday evening.

Auschwitz was a former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp used during the 1940s, where over 1.1 million lost their lives while the location was up and running.

The Auschwitz Memorial has recently become aware of WWE using this image and spoke on the matter on social media, calling it shameless and saying it insults the memory of the victims of Auschwitz, tweeting out:

“The fact that Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call ‘an editing mistake.’ Exploiting the site that became a symbol of enormous human tragedy is shameless and insults the memory of all victims of Auschwitz,” The Auschwitz Memorial posted.

WWE has yet to comment on this video package that aired on the WrestleMania 39 kickoff show on Saturday night. Although the company was quick to realize its mistake, as the image was edited out by the time the promo aired on the main show.
