An era as a young Hollywood icon isn’t the only thing Audrina Patrdige and Rachel Bilson have in common: they were also both targeted by the Bling Ring burglars.

The actresses realized the connection they shared during Monday’s episode of Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen, as Patridge, 38, and Bilson, 42, shared their experiences in greater depth than ever before.

The star of The Hills said she got “nothing” back after she was among the celebrities targeted by the infamous "Bling Ring" — a group of five L.A. teens and a 27-year-old who went on a crime spree from 2008 to 2009. Aside from Patridge and Bilson, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom were among the other stars whose homes were ransacked.

“They took trash bags of stuff,” Patridge shared. “They knew I was at an Oscars party, and they knew that because I tweeted it.”

The reality star had “just got back from Australia. I co-hosted the VMAs or something out there. So everything was still packed, got home, changed and then I went to the party and came home and I was like, ‘Am I losing my mind?’ My suitcase is gone, my laptop, everything is off my bed. Like, what is going on?”

“And then I went in my closet and I called my sister and I was like, ‘If I open my jewelry box and stuff is gone, someone is in my house,’” she continued. “And I opened it, everything was gone. And so that’s when I locked myself in [the closet], ‘cause I didn’t know if they were still in the house.”

She was “afraid to get off the phone, so I had my brother-in-law call 911 while I was on speaker,” she told Bilson. Ultimately, Patridge was able to help identify the perpetrators because she had cameras on her property that caught the faces of Nick Prugo and Rachel Lee.

Patridge recalled that her “back door was open” as she detailed how Prugo and Lee got in, noting that they pair also left with “suitcases of stuff.”

“I have a gate and no one can get through there but I guess the electricity or something went off and on.”

Patridge and Bilson both said that they got “nothing” returned to them after falling victim to the Bling Ring.

“I didn’t even get money back. Nothing for anything,” Partridge said. “They took stuff from my aunt, like vintage Chanel watches and rings.”

Bilson said added, “That’s the part that’s like, you guys! You were kids, but it was so f---ed up.”

After finding out the thieves were “two young kids, it took a lot of the anxiety off,” Patridge admitted.

Regardless, though, both she and The O.C. star agreed on the “invasiveness” of the robberies. “I remember I went and stayed with my mom in Orange County for a while. I was like, I don’t wanna be in that house,” Partridge said.

Bilson moved soon afterward, too, as she felt too “violated” by the repeat instances.

“I was out of town when it happened to me,” the podcast co-host recalled. “They went into my house five different times. I guess my door — like my back door — was unlocked.”

Like Patridge, “clothes and shoes and bags and jewelry” were taken from Bilson’s home, though it was her mom who ultimately noticed it.

“And my mom’s first engagement ring was taken,” Bilson said. “You know, that stuff is like… C’mon you guys…. Just give me the sentimental [stuff]. My mom still talks about it."

Bilson also talked to Patridge about her 2022 interview with two of the members of the Bling Ring, including that Lee, who was one of the thieves who stole from The Hills: New Beginnings star, said of her house: “‘I got so comfortable, I pooped in her bathroom.’ ”

“I was like, ‘That’s almost the most offensive part,’” Bilson said of the gross revelation about her former home.

Unfortunately, the Hart of Dixie star’s experiences with being robbed didn’t stop with the apprehension of the Bling Ring in 2009.

“I got really good at letting go of material things. ‘Cause not only did that happen with the Bling Ring, it happened to me again…. It was a targeted thing, again, when I was renting – when I was between houses,” Bilson shared. “I do think it was related in some way, specifically, to me, like targeted.”

Her co-host, Olivia Allen, affirmed Bilson’s claims as she reminded her friend that she was being chased by paparazzi the same day the robbery occurred.

Members of the Bling Ring stole roughly $3 million in cash and belongings from their celebrity victims. Lee, the group's ringleader, was sentenced to four years in prison but only served one year and four months.

The real-life story involving Hollywood's Bling Ring has sparked the creation of multiple adaptations, including a 2011 Lifetime film — The Bling Ring — starring Austin Butler and Jennifer Grey. The tale later received a big-screen feature directed by Sofia Coppola, also titled The Bling Ring, starring Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga, Leslie Mann, Israel Broussard and Katie Chang.

HBO also released a documentary, titled The Ringleader: The Case of the Bling Ring, in 2023, featuring Lee speaking out for the first time. A Netflix docuseries, titled The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist, was released, as well, in 2022.

Former member Alexis Neiers previously filmed the aftermath of her ties to the Bling Ring for her family's short-lived reality series, Pretty Wild, which partly showed the subsequent trial and featured her infamous call with then-Vanity Fair journalist Nancy Jo Sales.
