Auditions set for next choral event

May 22—From Staff Reports

A performance of Rogers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma" right here in Oklahoma is what the Garvin County Choral Society and Sinfonietta have in mind.

First things first auditions will come in a few days as the Norman Public Schools' fine arts programs are involved.

Auditions for actors and dancers begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at the Nancy O'Brian Center for the Performing Arts in Norman, 1903 Stubbeman.

A second day of auditions for actors is at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at First Presbyterian Church in Pauls Valley, 320 Walnut.

Participants should prepare a 16-bar singing audition, preferably a song from the show, followed by cold readings of scenes from the script.

Dancers should come dressed in comfortable clothing that allows you to move around.

Dance shoes, sneakers, or barefoot are all acceptable footwear. Hair should be pulled back and out of the face.

A short combo will be taught to assess basic dance skills and abilities to pick up choreography. Dancers will perform the combo all together and in smaller groups. No experience is necessary.

An ensemble will include men and women of various ages singing with numerous spoken roles.

Dancers are for farmers and ranchers and a "dream" ballet.

The first actual performance of "Oklahoma" will come at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Pauls Valley High School auditorium.

The second is at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 at the O'Brian Center in Norman.

Dancers can email the choreographer at escott@normanps.org.
