Auditions, new brews, an Elvis birthday bash and more happening on Cape Cod this week

A new year means a new theater season coming to Cape Cod. If you want to try your hand for a spot on the stage, the Cotuit Center for the Arts and Eventide Theater Company are hosting auditions for two shows on Jan. 7 and 8.

Both theaters will audition hopefuls for Cotuit’s “Legally Blonde” and Eventide’s “Pippin.” Auditions at the Eventide are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 and auditions at Cotuit are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 8.

For “Legally Blonde,” auditions are for 11 principal roles — Elle Woods,  Emmett Forest, Paulette Bonafonté, Pilar, Margot, Serena, Professor Callahan, Warner Huntington III, Vivienne Kensington, Brooke Wyndham and Enid Hoops — plus several ensemble roles. Auditioners should come prepared with one of six 16-32 bar counts — "Blood in the Water": Bass Baritone, "Chip on My Shoulder": Men, "OMG": Women, "Serious": Men, "What About Love?" For “Pippin,” auditions are for eight principal roles and six ensemble roles. Auditioners should wear comfortable clothes and shoes as there is a dance audition, and come prepared with a song. Eventide suggests four audition songs. For women, the mandatory song is “Magic To Do” measures 14 to 41 and the optional song is “No Time At All” measures one to 26. For men, the mandatory song is “With You” measures three to 34 and the optional song is “Extraordinary” measures eight to 41. Cape Cod Pale Ale will be on draft from Jan. 11 until it’s gone. Cape Cod Beer is at 1336 Phinney’s Lane in Hyannis.

Cape Cod Pirate Festival Auditions in Cotuit

If musical theater isn’t your thing but you still want to get up and perform, the Cape Cod Pirate Festival is holding pirate auditions for the 2024 Pirate Festival from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 6  at Cotuit Center for the Arts.

Auditioners are asked to prepare a monologue or scene and/or two contrasting songs — a ballad and an up-tempo song. Auditioners may also perform any special talents they have such as playing a musical instrument, magic, dance, juggling and so on. Elvis' Birthday Bash at the Music Room in West Yarmouth

Celebrate Elvis’ 89th birthday a day early on Jan. 7 at the Music Room in Yarmouth as they host the award-winning Elvis tribute show “Viva Las Elvis,” featuring performances from Dan Fontane and the Memphis Sun Mafia.

Opening Reception for Patty Barnes at the Cultural Center, South Yarmouth

The Cultural Center's latest member's exhibition "Anything but Marsh" showcases the illustrious talents of Cape Cod artists and the beauty of Cape Cod's marshes. Work will be on display at the center's four main galleries from Jan. 9 to Feb. 3 with a reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 12.

Along with "Anything but Marsh" the oil and gouache works of Patty Barnes and her students, created during and outside of her classes at the center, will be on display in the education wing creative art space from Jan. 9 to Feb. 11. The artists will also celebrate their works during the Jan. 12 reception.

The reception is free to attend. The Cultural Center of Cape Cod is at 307 Old Main St. in South Yarmouth.

Margarita Glass Painting at Rod and Rail in Buzzards Bay

Sip on your favorite cocktail and paint your own martini glass with Inebri-Art and Rod and Rail from 6 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 10 at Rod and Rail in Bourne.
