It's a New York theater offering that doesn't hold back on what it holds for ticket holders:

The official website for "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea'' promises to be "the Off-Broadway event that delves into the depths of our souls.''

The show starring Wilmington native and TV and film star Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott opens in a 10-week limited run on Monday, Oct. 30, at the Lucille Lortell Theatre in the Village.

The show is directed by Jeff Ward and written by John Patrick Shanley ("Doubt," "Moonstruck").

Actors Aubrey Plaza and Will Sharpe pose with the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series with the cast of "The White Lotus" during the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, Calif., on Feb. 26, 2023.

What is ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea'?

Plaza plays Roberta, a single mom with a teenage son, while Abbott is Danny, a loner who lives with his mama.

Both strangers are chased by the ghosts of their past while comparing scars over drinks in a Bronx bar.

"The unlikely pair uncover their deepest, darkest truths, carving out space for empathy — and maybe more," per the show's synopsis.

In a time when the U.S. Surgeon General has sounded alarms about the dangers of loneliness and isolation, the show's creators say the play has at its heart an "enduring message about the importance of human connection.''

The story is written by Shanley, who won the 1988 Academy Award for "Moonstruck,'' which starred Cher and Nicolas Cage.

"Danny and the Deep Blue Sea" is an early drama from the playwright and screenwriter, who also wrote the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning "Doubt: A Parable."

'Danny' is a hot ticket at box office

The show's promotions must be touching a nerve with theater fans. Of the 10-week run, only a handful of dates still show tickets available on the official website, mostly in November.

Ticket prices range from $184 to $344.

The theater is located at 121 Christopher St., New York City. For more information and to order, visit dannyandthedeepbluesea.com

What else is Aubrey up to?

The Hollywood star is a voice actor in the new Netflix anime series "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off," which premieres Friday, Nov. 17.

She reprises her role of Julie Powers, the no-nonsense character she played in the live-action film "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" (2010).

Plaza has also been active on picket lines as part of the Hollywood SAG-AFTRA strike, demanding better wages for her peers.

The actress, who is nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance on HBO's dark comedy "White Lotus," gave the entertainment industry a piece of her mind in a video the SAG-AFTRA shared to its official Instagram account in July.
