Aubrey Plaza and sister Renee arrive at the 2012 Do Something Awards at Barker Hangar on August 19, 2012 in Santa Monica, California.

When she’s not busy filming projects like The White Lotus, Aubrey Plaza enjoys spending quality time with her sisters, Natalie and Renee Plaza.

Although Aubrey is seven years older than Natalie and 12 years older than Renee, they shared a close bond while growing up in a variety of suburbs in Delaware. Aubrey’s sisters did not, however, follow in her acting footsteps — Natalie is a financial adviser and Renee is working toward her Ph.D. in clinical psychology.

They remain close to this day, attending weddings and concerts together and sharing photos of one another on social media. Aubrey likes to express her love by giving her sisters unique presents, and has gifted Natalie and Renee everything from sports cards to a tipi.

During an interview with The Guardian in October 2022, Aubrey revealed that Natalie and Renee share personality traits with her sarcastic Parks and Recreation character, April Ludgate. The actress herself relates to the overachiever in the show. “My two younger sisters are a lot more like April than me, whereas I was more like Lesley Knope," she said.

Here’s everything to know about Aubrey Plaza’s siblings — Natalie and Renee — and their relationship with their famous sister.

They grew up in Delaware

The Plaza sisters grew up in Delaware with an Irish-Catholic mother and a Puerto Rican father, Bernadette Plaza and David Plaza, respectively. Aubrey’s parents were 19 when she was born, and they were attending night school at the time, per The Guardian. Bernadette became a lawyer, and David became a financial adviser.

“My parents are very ambitious and they came from nothing,” Aubrey told the newspaper. “So I grew up watching them work really hard to get to where they are today.”

In December 2021, she also shared with Delaware Today that they moved around a lot and lived in the suburbs of Wilmington, Pike Creek and Hockessin.

“Wilmington says it’s a place to be somebody, and that’s really true,” Aubrey reflected to the outlet in a separate February 2012 interview. “It’s kind of cool to grow up in a small-town environment but still be close to all the big cities.”

Aubrey’s quirks affected Renee at school

Aubrey was quirky as a young person, too, and she passed some of that eccentricity on to Renee. When the actress appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show in December 2021, her sister sat in the audience and recalled funny anecdotes.

Renee noted that they went to the same school, an all-girls Catholic school called Ursuline Academy, and Aubrey made an impression outside the classroom.

“There’s a 12-year difference between us, so she would drive me to school in her bright red mini Cooper with a football helmet on, and that cackling happened all the way there,” Renee said.

When Renee was asked if she would have preferred a “normal, straight-laced sister” or if she was happy to have an “entertaining, cool, interesting human being,” she replied, “It’s probably somewhere in-between.”

“I mean, because we went to the same school, she kind of put that normalcy disruption into my existence in that school,” the doctoral candidate elaborated.

The White Lotus star added, “I will say that Renee has carried the torch.” She explained that she used to dress up in lots of costumes at school, and Renee did, too. “We were both the school mascot which wasn’t, like, an actual thing,” she said. “We just made it up.”

Natalie played a part in inspiring Aubrey’s hilarious, deadpan performance of intern and assistant April on Parks and Recreation.

“I have a 17-year-old sister, Natalie, and I get a lot of material from her for my characters,” Aubrey revealed to Latina.com, per Insider. “Just the way that she interacts with her friends and talks about what's cool and what's not cool, are people on Facebook or are they on MySpace.”

Renee is a doctoral candidate studying clinical psychology

Renee began working toward her Ph.D. at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in August 2020 and is set to complete the program in May 2025, according to her Linkedin page. She previously earned her M.A. in forensic psychology at The George Washington University in 2019 as well as a B.A. in psychology and creative producing at Chapman University in 2018.

In May 2023, Renee shared her dissertation on Instagram, “Examining the Associations Between Parasocial Relationship Strength and Ideal Expectations, Perceptions, and Satisfaction in Friendships." She joked in the caption, “Still don’t know what dissertation means but I guess it’s this."

Renee is also passionate about women’s relationships with their favorite television characters. She posted about her study on the subject in August 2023. “Following my first stint of writing a hyperanalytic film school paper on the Lizzie Mcguire Movie (unexpected to all of course, got the best grade in the class)...” she quipped.

Natalie is a financial adviser

Natalie has served as a financial adviser at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management since 2018, per her Linkedin page.

“Stories are everything and everyone has one,” reads her bio on the platform. “Listening to stories and being of service is my work and passion. I enjoy helping others succeed and do so by identifying their needs, understanding their objectives and thoughtfully planning for their financial goals.”

Natalie adds that she and her team are experts on the financial details involved in working in entertainment from “a need for liquidity” to “a need for capital to finance the next big project.” The adviser also notes that they serve industry professionals by helping “set strategies in motion to take their worries out of their hands.”

In January 2023, Natalie made Forbes’ list of Best In-State Wealth Management Teams as a Team Member.

They served as groomswomen at their dad’s wedding

When the sisters’ father got married to Mihaela Ghetau in June 2017, Aubrey, Natalie and Renee wore suits for the South Philadelphia festivities. The day after the wedding, the actress posted on Instagram in honor of Father’s Day.

She shared a hilarious black-and-white photo of the sisters wearing dark sunglasses and posing with their dad on his big day. “Happy Fathers Day to the coolest dad alive who let me and my sisters dress like this in his wedding last night,” she captioned the post.

“It was a blast,” Aubrey said about the wedding on Conan in June 2017. “My family loves to party, and that's what we did all night long.”

She also joked that the Instagram photo was just a “typical wedding portrait” and explained their roles as groomswomen. “My middle sister, Natalie, was the best man,” she noted.

Aubrey revealed that it was Natalie’s idea to break with convention. “It just kind of spiraled, and we were like, ‘Let’s just do it. Let’s get crazy,’ ” she said. Although not all of their family members were excited about the idea at first, they ultimately came around, according to the actress.

Natalie is married

Natalie and her wife, Zoë Worth, tied the knot on June 1, 2023, at San Francisco City Hall. Natalie celebrated their special day with an Instagram photo of them, featuring Natalie in a chic suit and Worth wearing a white dress.

Worth appears to be in the film industry, based on her Instagram. In 2022, she worked on the movie, THELMA.

The wives frequently post photos of each other with sweet captions on the social media platform.

On Sept. 15, 2021, Natalie shared a photo of Worth and wrote, “Happy birthday to @zhworth, a Top Chef queen!!! You’re a Full Bloom head with a Survivor addiction. You always have the Circle on the brain and an eye on the prize when drafting your Fantasy MTV’s the Challenge team. I hope all the reality TV stars align to make all your bday wishes come true.”

Renee shared a photo of the sisters posing at the wedding and joked in her caption, “...and then there was one 😈.” (Aubrey married writer-director Jeff Baena in 2021.)

Aubrey has given her sisters some unusual gifts

Renee and Natalie have received a rather atypical assortment of gifts from their older sister over the years.

When speaking about Renee with the television host Jay Leno in January 2011, Aubrey reflected in a deadpan tone, “It’s hard to send her gifts. ... For Christmas, I didn’t know what to get her, so I sent her a seven-foot tipi in the mail and a trampoline for her bedroom.”

“I just send her things that I know my parents don’t want her to have,” the actress added.

Aubrey revealed another one of her witty gifts during an August 2022 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “I actually got a pole for my sister as a quarantine activity because that’s what we do in my family,” she quipped. “I took her to Vegas to see the Magic Mike show for her 21st birthday, and she was dragged up onstage and she had a knack for it. I encourage good hobbies for my little sister.”

The Black Bear star noted, “She installed it in my dad’s basement … Honestly he really likes it. That’s kind of like my dad is. He was more excited about it than she was. I think it’s still there.”
