The actress tells PEOPLE that the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Super Bowl commercial is “the best April and Ron reunion that could have ever happened"

Aubrey Plaza had a blast shooting her first-ever Super Bowl commercial.

The White Lotus actress stars in Mountain Dew’s Baja Blast Super Bowl commercial, which features a mini Parks and Recreation reunion as Nick Offerman makes a cameo. Plaza spoke with PEOPLE about what it was like reuniting with her dear friend and filming the fun ad.

“There's so many eyes on that broadcast. It feels like an accomplishment. But the fact that they asked me to do it, I just felt grateful,” she says. “It's one of those things you always dream about doing and then you watch it every year and you're like, ‘Oh wow, that person and that person, that person…’ So I feel very lucky and I feel kind of like, yeah, I got another notch on my belt. So I think it's really cool.”

The big game commercial celebrates how Baja Blast, a Taco Bell fan-favorite, is now available in stores nationwide for the first time. To prove that you can enjoy one of the fizzy sodas anywhere, Plaza is seen having a “blast” in various situations throughout the clip.

Using her signature unbothered tone, Plaza starts out the clip, saying, “It’s me. America’s sweetheart, and I just love having a blast…a Mountain Dew Baja Blast.”

In the next scene, she’s at a children’s party getting repeatedly hit in the head with pool noodles.

“Kids party? Having a blast,” she said, giving the camera a deadpan look.

“Stuck in an elevator? Having a blast,” she said with the same tone and expression.

In the ad, Plaza could also be seen stuck in a sewer, getting abducted by aliens and thrown down in a wrestling ring as she kept reiterating “having a blast.”

Her former Parks and Recreation costar comes in to help with the next scene.

“I can have a blast anytime, anywhere,” she says while riding a giant dragon. Offerman shows up on his own dragon. “And with anyone?” he quips as Plaza does a dramatic laugh. Offerman closes out the commercial, saying, “I, too, am having a blast.”

The over-the-top scene with Offerman was definitely her favorite to film, Plaza says.

“They pitched Nick Offerman — me and Nick Offerman riding dragons. It's like, you just can't say no to that. That's the best April and Ron reunion that could have ever happened,” she says, referring to their characters on the iconic NBC comedy.

“The shooting day was hilarious because I hadn't seen Nick in a while. And so it's very funny to not see someone for a long time, and then the next time you see them, you're dressed in Game of Thrones outfits and you're riding dragons and you're just like, ‘So how's the family?’” she laughs. “It was a pretty funny scene. And we were just cracking each other up.”

She adds: “It was kind of like the cherry on top. It was just a trip. It was a complete fever dream. It was hilarious.”

As for filming the commercial as a whole, Plaza says it felt like “movie magic.”

“It was an insanely kind of chaotic day, but it was just so hilarious to be dressed one way, and like a wrestler and have someone in a wrestling ring coming at you, and then an hour later I'm getting abducted by aliens, and I was being lifted on some crazy crane and everything,” she says. “It was just cool to see everybody create these scenarios so fast because we shot it in one day — one very long day.”

To celebrate her accomplishment, Plaza tells PEOPLE she’ll have a casual viewing party.

“I believe the commercial's airing in the first quarter, so that's good. We'll get that out of the way because I'm nervous,” she says. “I don't have any big plans this year. I'm just going to make some dips, make some snacks and get cozy and watch the whole show. Hopefully maybe have some people over, but nothing too fancy."

The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl LVIII, airing on CBS on Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
