The Atypical Family is a new K-drama, starring Jang Ki-Young and Chun Woo-Hee in lead roles. The fantasy romance series is all set to premiere every week on JTBC and Netflix.

The official synopsis reads, “Once blessed with unique superpowers, a family loses their abilities due to modern-day problems — until a mysterious woman changes everything.” Magical powers run in Bok Gwi-Joo’s family but the daily problems affect their abilities.

When Do Da-Hae enters their lives, Gwi-Joo’s mother thinks that she is the key to restoring the family’s powers. However, the road to curing Gwi-Joo’s depression and regaining their lost abilities will not be easy.

The Atypical Family cast & their characters

The Atypical Family cast includes many A-list actors including Jang Ki-Young, Chun Woo-Hee, Go Doo-Shim, and Kim Su-Hyun.

Ki-Young plays Bok Gwi-Joo, the son of the Bok family who can transport to the past. Due to a traumatic incident, he becomes depressed, and slowly his powers disappear. As he cannot travel to his happy moments in the past, his present becomes gloomy. Will Da-Hae be able to help him come out of depression? Only time will tell. Ki-Young is known for playing some popular roles in shows, including My Roommate is a Gumiho, Search: WWW, and Kill It.

Woo-Hee plays Do Da-Hae, a mysterious woman who changes the Bok family’s life. Since she begins to live with them, change starts to occur in each family member’s life. In the trailer, she helps Gwi-Joo when he appears to be drowning in the sea.

Kim Su-Hyun essays the role of Bok Dong-Hee, Gwi-Joo’s sister who can fly. She begins to lose power due to an eating disorder. Also, Dong-Hee will intimidate Da-Hae in the K-drama. Go Doo-Shim plays Gwi-Joo’s mother’s role, Bok Man-Heum. She dreams of Da-Hae and thus believes she is the key to their problems. Man-Heum’s magical power is that she can see the future and loses her ability due to phone addiction.

The family also includes Gwi-Joo’s daughter, Bok Yi-Na, who doesn’t have any superpowers. It seems Gwi-Joo has become depressed since his wife died. Aside from the aforementioned cast, The Atypical Family also includes:

  • Oh Man-Seok as Eom Soon-Gu

  • Kim Geum-Soon as Baek Il-Hong

  • Ryu Abel as Grace
