ATX Fest to Host ‘Fargo’ Screening of Noah Hawley’s Directorial Debut

The ATX Television Festival will host a screening of “Fargo’s” second episode, followed by a Q&A with creator Noah Hawley.

The Oct. 20 screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, comes one week after tonight’s Season 2 premiere on FX. Episode two of “Fargo” marks Hawley’s directorial debut.

“It was time to put my money where my mouth was,” Hawley tells Variety of deciding to take a seat in the director’s chair.

He continues, “At a certain point, you graduate to want to see what that experience is like and find out as a writer if you really can tell a story with the camera. That expands your ability as a writer to realize the power of the camera and the power of moving the camera — when you move it, what it accentuates and how you move it, the staging of scenes. I learned a lot from the great directors I worked with. It was a very rewarding challenge to get behind the camera myself.”

As for heading to ATX for a discussion on “Fargo” and directing, Hawley says he’s privy not only to the town of Austin, but also the community that the festival brings together.

“I’m a big believer in community, in the sense that we make a show about people who live in a very specific place, and a lot of what the story is about is the connection between people,” Hawley explains. “ATX takes place in my town, and I want to celebrate my accomplishments with the people who are closest to me.”

Though the screening and discussion are not part of ATX’s annual fest, which falls this year from June 9-12, the “Fargo” event is another step in the festival’s venture into year-round programming, following February’s “House of Cards” half-marathon with Beau Willimon and last week’s Season 2 premiere of “The Leftovers,” also in Austin.
