‘Attraction’ Trailer: ‘Stalingrad’ Helmer Makes Contact In Russian Alien Invasion Pic

Fedor Bondarchuk, director of Russia’s all-time biggest local grosser, Stalingrad, has returned behind the camera for Attraction, the market’s first-ever alien invasion movie. From Art Pictures Studio and Vodorod, Attraction is being released locally via Sony on January 26, 2017. The epic sci-fi story sees lives forever changed when a mysterious flying space object crashes over Moscow. (Check out the trailer above.) Sony’s Columbia also released 2013’s Stalingrad which grossed over $52M in Russia and $11.5M in China.

Oleg Menshikov (Burnt By The Sun, The Barber Of Siberia), Alexander Petrov (Yolki 3), Rinal Mukhameto (Optimisty) and newcomer Irina Starshenbaum star.

Russia’s leading VFX house, MainRoadlPost, whose credits include Timur Bekmambatov’s Wanted as well as Stalingrad lends its skills here as does Dave Whitehead on sound design. His previous work includes Denis Villeneuve’s current release Arrival; Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 and Elysium; and the Hobbit films.

Production on Attraction wraps on December 2. There is expected to be an IMAX commitment here and there are plans to release in 43 international markets, including China.

Screenplay is by Oleg Malovichko and Andrey Zolotarev. Producers are Bondarchuk, Dmitriy Rudovskiy, Mikhail Vrubel, Alexander Andryuschenko and Anton Zlatopolskiy.
