Atmospheric River Causes Flooding Across Southern British Columbia

Environment Canada said on Sunday, November 14, that a “significant atmospheric river event” was dumping “copious” rain on parts of the British Columbia south coast.

Video tweeted by Stuart Chase shows vehicles in floodwaters on 16th Avenue and Courtenay Street in Vancouver early Monday morning, November 15.

The Vancouver Sun said the flooding and road closures were “causing mayhem” Monday morning.

Evacuation orders were issued for Abbotsford, where small mudslides were reported but no injuries suffered, according to police.

Rainfall warnings were in place in Metro Vancouver, western Fraser Valley, Whistler, Howe Sound and parts of the Sunshine Coast. Credit: Stuart Chase via Storyful
