Athens Cafe Racer location has finally opened. Find out what's on the menu.

Almost two years since it was first announced, Cafe Racer Coffee + Donuts opened on Tuesday at 2333 W. Broad St., marking the ever-popular Crawford, Georgia-based restaurant's first Athens location.

Though locals have enjoyed Cafe Racer's baked goods and burgers for years via its food truck, loyal customers and newcomers will have regular access to the breakfast and lunch option from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.

Thanks to a well-considered parking lot plan, the drive-through setup at Cafe Racer brings guests into the lot via the shopping center's existing traffic light and back out onto Broad Street to exit. The Banner-Herald visited at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and moved through the line in about 15 minutes. Similar to Chick-fil-A, Cafe Racer staff members took orders and payments at car windows and waved them through to the pickup area beside the restaurant.

Eight varieties of Cafe Racer's signature hand-cut and glazed potato donuts are available at the new location at $3.50 each or $16 for a half dozen, as well as nine different kinds of biscuits that range from $7 to $8. Tacos and burritos are also on the menu in addition to assorted choices of coffee, tea and juice. The donuts that the Banner-Herald sampled were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, but the Tater Boi biscuit won the morning with its combination of hash browns, egg, cheddar, jalapeño cream cheese and Racer Sauce.

Founded in 2018 by owners Christopher and Gabriella Hart, Cafe Racer operated at 3 Arnoldsville Rd. in Crawford, with a food truck that became an instant hit in Athens at farmers markets, special events, breweries, concerts and more. For customers who prefer a more personal experience, the Broad Street location has a limited amount of parking space, a service window for walk-up orders, and a limited amount of patio seating.
