Athena Wants To Take The ROH Women’s World Title On A World Tour
Athena is the reigning Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion. Recently, she shared her dreams of where she wants to defend her championship.
The current ROH Women’s World Champion was recently a special guest on the Battleground podcast. During the episode, Athena shared her aspirations of defending her championship all around the world.
“Absolutely. I’ve done it before. With Miyu Yamashita on the indie scene. Because of the filming schedule, it’s not quite possible… Uh… without Tony (Khan)’s approval. But I would love to go to Japan. I would love to take the Ring of Honor Championship to Japan and defend it there. Particularly for New Japan or STARDOM. I’ve just always wanted to wrestle over there. Especially, for those two companies in particular.”
Athena praises the women of New Japan Pro Wrestling
The former WWE Superstar’s biggest dream is to be able to defend her championship in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
“When I first was in the Indies, New Japan did not have women’s wrestling so, it’s even more of a like, ‘I needs it. I needs it.’ Right? So, those are just dreams I have, I want to go to the UK. I mean, the UK scene has changed immensely since I was on the independent scene. I would love to go back to Australia. I would love to take the Ring of Honor Championship on a world tour. Like I really would. I think now I’m more focused on trying to see what’s next for me. Because I don’t know.
“But like right now, I would love to do that. I would love to promote Ring of Honor on a world level. You know, we get to go to Canada… Honestly, my dream right now is just to go to Japan. Like I just, that is my dream, that is the style that I’ve emulated more than anything else. And I know those women hit so hard and they’re so absolutely phenomenal and they train like just Beast Mode 24/7. And that’s just something I’ve always wanted to be immersed in myself. But… yeah… yeah,” Athena said.
Athena is not underestimating Billie Starks
Athena is set to defend her championship at ROH Final Battle against Billie Starks. While speaking on the same episode of the Battleground podcast, the champion mentioned that while Starks is someone who takes big risks, she will not be taking the title away from her.
“Like I have Billie Starks and though everyone thinks I’m underestimating her. I know exactly who she is, I know exactly what she’s capable of. Because at the same time, I don’t foresee her winning this match. I don’t put any thought to it. But I also know she’s the one that takes bigger risks than me. And I’ve seen her do it time and time again. And it’s just being at the point where I don’t get caught in the middle of one of those huge risks.”
