Assumption and Sacred Heart advance to the Kentucky's field hockey championship game
If Sacred Heart hopes to win its third-straight KHSAA field hockey state championship, it'll have to come against a familiar opponent.
The Valkyries (18-9) will take on Assumption (22-5-1) in the state championship for the second year in a row after both teams notched victories in the semifinal round Saturday at CAL. The championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday night back at CAL.
The Rockets defeated CAL 3-0 in the weekend's first semifinal game. CAL looked like ready to knock off Assumption coming in after scoring a 2-0 win over the Rockets on Oct. 4. Saturday's rematch took a different turn, though.
Senior Isabella Bergner struck first for the Rockets in the closing seconds of the first quarter. Maria Piccioli would extend the Rockets' lead in the second half before Bergner closed out the game with her second goal of the night, wrapping up a 3-0 shutout.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Sacred Heart topped Manual 2-0. The win marked Sacred Heart's third shutout win over the Crimsons this season.
Assumption and Sacred Heart have already met twice this season, with each team taking a victory. The Rockets beat Sacred Heart in the Apple Tournament championship in August before the Valkyries returned the favor in their annual Mug Game rivalry in September.
Monday's match will finally settle the score.
