ASICS to launch an entire collection of smart shoes that make you a faster and stronger runner

Just in time to help keep you committed to new year fitness goals, ASICS is launching an incredible new smart shoe that allows fitness enthusiasts to receive real-time feedback and actionable insights that will help make them a better runner.

The Japanese sportswear giant revealed a working prototype at the ASICS Energy Research Lab at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Tuesday, and it works with the help of a sensor embedded in the Evoride running shoe ($120), which will be available for purchase on February 7.

“I’m really pleased to be showcasing the incredible innovation that is normally hidden away in our ISS labs, especially in a year that is so important for sport, for Japan and – of course – for ASICS as well,” COO Yasuhito Hirota said of the product.

The Evoride’s are a follow-up to the popular Metaride and Glideride, two of the brand’s top selling shoes. Features in the Metaride include advanced midsole foams and a patented rocker sole design that gives you a soft landing and more efficient stride as you power through your workout.

Scientifically proven to help you save energy, the Glideride’s curved sole design reduces ankle flexion and provide a shock-absorbent landing zone to lessen wear of other leg muscles and increase your efficiency over time.

Always committed to helping you conserve energy and maximize your workout, the digital and functional technologies found in ASICS shoes coincide with the features in the Runkeeper app. Within the app, you can also determine which ASICS shoe is right for you, as they’re all created differently but with the same end goals in mind.

In order to determine essentials such as cadence, running type and vertical movement, CES attendees sprinted on a treadmill for about a minute as the analyzer used pre-recorded data (height, weight, etc) to provide instant results. As you continue using the app and build mileage in your new shoes, you’ll notice major improvements regarding overall form. The analysis is available seconds upon completing your workout.

For help bringing this revolutionary concept to life, ASICS partnered with Japanese start-up No New Folk (NNF) studio. The special partnership sees the combination of NNF’s unique, multi-dimensional sensors with the ASICS Institute of Sport Science (ISS) expertise of the human body.
