On Sept 7, the former That 70’s Show star Danny Masterson was sentenced to serve 30 years to life in prison for raping two women between the years of 2001-03. The sentencing occurred months after the actor was found guilty and taken into police custody in May.

Following the sentencing on Thursday, more details surrounding the case have been revealed to the public, including the letters sent by his former 70’s Show co-stars Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher. The letters, which asked the judge for leniency in the case, were published in full by legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff.

“I first met Danny during our time working together on That 70’s Show, and from the very beginning, I could sense his innate goodness and genuine nature,” Kunis’ letter reads, per StyleCaster. “Throughout our time together, Danny has proven to be an amazing friend, confidant, and, above all, an outstanding older brother figure to me. His caring nature and ability to offer guidance have been instrumental in my growth both personally and professionally. One of the most remarkable aspects of Danny’s character is his unwavering commitment to discouraging the use of drugs. His influence on me in this regard has been invaluable.”

The Black Swan star continued, “Danny’s role as a husband and father to his daughter has been nothing short of extraordinary,” she wrote. “Witnessing his interactions with his daughter has been heartwarming and enlightening. He prioritizes his family, education, and happiness above all else, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to being a loving and responsible parent.”

“He demonstrates grace and empathy in every situation, be it within the entertainment industry or in our personal lives,” she continued. “His steady support and understanding presence make him a reliable source of guidance and comfort for all of us.”

In the letter written by Kutcher, he shared similar sentiments. “As a friend, Danny has been nothing but a positive influence on me,” the A Lot Like Love star wrote. “He’s an extraordinarily honest and intentional human being.”

“He set a standard of being a hands on dad,” the letter continued. “We have spent countless hours together with our kids and he is among few people that I would trust to be alone with my son and daughter. He’s also a dedicated and loyal husband with unwavering commitment to his wife.”

“While I’m aware that the judgment has been cast as guilty on two counts of rape by force and the victims have a great desire for justice, I hope that my testament to his character is taken into consideration in sentencing,” Kutcher ended his statement to the judge. “I do not believe he is an ongoing harm to society and having his daughter raised without a present father would [be] a tertiary injustice in and of itself. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”

Although you, like us, might be infuriated after reading these letters alone, there’s one detail about Kutcher and Kunis that has the internet even more angry: their work in Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children. According to People, their company builds technology to defend children from sexual trafficking and abuse.

“Ashton Kutcher co-founding a campaign to end child trafficking but writing letters of support for his serial rapist bestie is such a great encapsulation of the way people love to fight against their imaginary idea of what abuse is but not what it actually is,” wrote user on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Another user, who was just finding out about the letters, couldn’t even believe they were real. “Ashton Kutcher who has a whole organization devoted to being an advocate for sexual assault/traffic victims?!” the user wrote. “Oooh nasty nasty hypocrisy.”

Although we fully understand that sexual assault and child sex trafficking are two different things, we (along with the internet) can’t help but to make the connection. After all, if the couple is such advocates against any forms of abuse or exploitation, they should’ve cut ties with Masterson long ago, let alone advocate for his mercy.
