Ashanti’s Mom Corrects Host Bringing Up Pregnancy Before Official Announcement
While fans of Nelly and Ashanti have heard news of the rekindled couple expecting, the “Happy” singer’s mother, Tina Douglas, needs you to chill out until an official announcement drops.
During a panel discussion held this week, Tina was asked by the event’s host to pass her congratulations on to her daughter on the pregnancy, with the momager refusing because the couple themselves have not shared the news.
“There’s been no announcement, it hasn’t come out yet, so, you know, until I hear it from Ashanti and Nelly…”
“Oh, I thought it was public, may bad!” the host offered, with mom Tina adding, “No, it is public, don’t get it twisted, but it hasn’t been officially announced, and until it is,” she said as she tossed her hair over her shoulder.
Tina is correct that the couple have yet to speak on the reported pregnancy, as sources at Us Weekly were the first to report on the pair’s potential bundle of joy. However, the songstress has been seen performing as of late in looks that are a bit more forgiving in the stomach area, leading fans to believe she and the Country Grammar rapper are, indeed, expecting.
After dating and breaking up back in the early 2000s, Nelly and Ashanti rekindled their romance in 2023, with Fat Joe recently taking credit for the latest incarnation of their relationship.
“I immediately tell them I need 10 percent of this kid because if it wasn’t for Verzuz that I brought Nelly out [during] me against Ja Rule, that’s when they saw each other and energy connected again,” the Bronx rhymer said. “That’s when he said, ‘I gotta have her.’”
