All he wanted was a “Simple Kind of Life.”

Gavin Rossdale opened up about his divorce from Gwen Stefani, saying it is his “clearest, simplest shame.”

“I never thought I’d ever get divorced,” Rossdale, 58, admitted to former “GMA 3” co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach while on their podcast “Amy & T.J.”

“So there’s a simple shame in my life.”

According to the Bush frontman, who comes from a broken home, his greatest regret is the fact that his kids have to go through the same process he did.

“I feel bad for my kids, that’s it,” he told the couple. “I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn’t fun for me to come from a broken home … It can be quite debilitating for kids … the overriding thing is you don’t want to let your kids down.

“The biggest thing would be when you see the kids that sometimes there’s a loss,” he added. “It’d be nice if there was more of a connection with the person who made them with me.”

In 2015, the couple announced their divorce after rumors that Rossdale allegedly cheated on Stefani with their nanny.

Shortly before the divorce was finalized, the No Doubt frontwoman — who said in September that her “life fell apart” during the proceedings — began dating her current husband and fellow “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton. The country singer was going through his own split from wife Miranda Lambert at the time.

The pair got engaged in 2020 and exchanged vows the following year.

According to Rossdale, he often crosses paths with both Stefani and Shelton, 47, at industry events.

“I go to a lot of events where there’s ‘the other team,’ so to speak and I just feel really proud of myself in my consistency as a father,” Rossdale continued on the podcast. “I know in my heart that I’m super consistent.”

Despite what he called a “very contentious, hugely emotional, flared-up situation,” he does his best to abstain from talking about his ex-wife.

“Less said, soonest mended and I said nothing,” he noted. “I’m handcuffed because I would never want to overly say anything negative about their mom. That’s just not right.”

Rossdale has moved on with fellow musician Xhoana, with whom he became Instagram official this month.

“I think that there’s no accidents in life so you are where you’re meant to be. So I don’t live in regret,” he shared. “Life just unfolds how it should.”
