Alexandria Senior High's 'The Little Mermaid' swims on stage this weekend

Alexandria High School students will perform 'Disney's The Little Mermaid' this weekend at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the theater, 202 3rd St., Alexandria. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and military and $10 for children and can be purchased at showtix4u.com.

The musical is based on Hans Christian Andersen's story and on the Disney animated movie and includes the classic songs "Under the Sea" and "Part of Your World."

The story is about a young mermaid, Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton, who is fascinated by the world above the sea. She rescues the human Prince Eric after he fell overboard from his ship during a storm. She falls in love with him and wants to pursue a relationship with him in his world. Ariel strikes a bargain with Ursula, an evil sea witch and her aunt, in which she trades her singing voice for legs.
