Arya Asked Gendry to Build a Weapon That Confirms a Major 'Game of Thrones' Fan Theory

From Esquire

In the Game of Thrones Season Eight premiere Arya Stark is finally reunited with her old blacksmith friend Gendry. He's found himself in a key position in the Northern army, where he's making Dragonglass weapons for soldiers in the battle against the White Walkers. Down in the forge, Arya hands Gendry a little doodle of a weapon she'd like him to build for her. It looks like this:

So, what is this thing?

It looks like some sort of spear with a detachable shaft, with a tip made of Dragonglass, as she's labeled there. On the other half, there appears to be a second blade of some kind. But what could this be used for?

In a recent interview for Vanity Fair's Still Watching podcast, Game of Thrones weapons master Tommy Dunne described a new creation for this final season:

“There is one creation in Season Eight that is absolutely phenomenal. It’ll be a showstopper. That was great to finish. It was great to make, great to design it that it was about to be reverse-engineered and made into two different items.”

My hunch would be that this weapon can be used as one spear or two daggers-one Dragonglass, one Valyrian steel. Which would give Arya a pretty versatile weapon in the war to come. As fans noted on Reddit, Arya has long admired the Dornish warrior-queen Nymeria (whom she named her own direwolf after). The warriors of Dorn are known for using spears or shorter throwing spears, which seams to be what Arya is going for with this blueprint. It might be a stretch, but it's also worth noting that the Dornish were the first to kill one of Aegon I Targaryen's dragons during the First Dornish War. As the Game of Thrones Wiki explains:

The Targaryens unleashed their dragons a third time, this time upon Starfall, the seat of House Dayne, Skyreach, the seat of House Fowler, and Hellholt, the seat of House Uller. At Hellholt, the dragon Meraxes was shot down from the sky, with Queen Rhaenys Targaryen upon her back, when a bolt from a scorpion pierced the dragon's eye. Although Meraxes destroyed the castle's highest tower and part of its curtain wall in its fall, the death of both dragon and queen was the greatest success the Dornish had against the Targaryens.

But, more importantly, throughout her time in Braavos, we watched Arya train with a spear, but still haven't seen her use the weapon in battle.

Fans have long theorized that Arya will be the one to kill either the Night King or his new Ice Dragon. And a "showstopper" weapon that can be "made into two different items" certainly sounds like a detachable spear/dagger that will be used to kill one of the big villains on this show.

Chekov's Gun ... more like Arya's Dagger.
