Artoberfest in Petersburg: Live art, food trucks, live music, kids activities, crafts

PETERSBURG — Artoberfest, a unique art experience, happens this weekend at the Appomattox Iron Works in Old Towne. The free community event which includes a host of creative collaborations is on Saturday, October 7 from 6 - 9 p.m.

Enjoy the sights of large-scale works created by Alex Criqui and Dustin Klein projected on the side of an old factory building and immerse yourself in tunes played by DJ Cecil from 6-7 p.m. and the sounds of Rodney "The Soul Singer" Stith from 8-9 p.m.

Another highlight will be projections by LIV [Life is Valuable], a music mentorship non-profit working with regional youth, accompanied by an improvised soundscape, from 7-8 p.m.

Explore art by various regional artists at the art market, build a lantern with 1708 Gallery, and fuel that creative spark in the kids with activities by the Petersburg Area Art League. Watch artist Jerro create a mural on part of the Iron Works fence.

Foodies will be happy to know the following eats and drinks will be available for purchase: VA Furnace Pizza, Beanuts Donuts doughnuts and hot dogs, beer from Trapezium Brewing Company as well as Three Notch'd Brewing and more.

The event is sponsored by Main Street Petersburg, CultureWorks, LIV, John Randolph Foundation, Shockoe Records, Petersburg Area Art League, Trapezium Brewing Company and Three Notch'd Brewing.

The renovated outdoor event space including a covered stage is a part of the historic Appomattox Iron Works, an iron foundry complex from the 1800s. It was designated a Virginia State Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The event takes place at 26 W. Old St. The entrance to Appomattox Iron Works is between Buttery Baking House and Penniston's Alley Antiques and Collectibles. The rain date for the Artoberfest 2023 is Saturday, October 21.
