Created by James McNamara, David Maher, and David Taylor, The Artful Dodger is a period action drama series. Featuring characters from Charles Dickens’ 1838 book Oliver Twist and set 15 years after the events of the novel, the show revolves around Jack Dawkins or the Artful Dodger, the pickpocket-turned-celebrated-surgeon in Australia in the 1850s. However, when Fagin, the secondary antagonist from the book, returns to his life, Jack is forced to resort to his old tricks. Season 1 premieres on November 29, 2023. Is there a The Artful Dodger Season 2 release date?
There is no release date as the show has reportedly been developed as a limited series.
According to multiple reports, The Artful Dodger was developed as an eight-part miniseries that can be viewed as a spin-off to Dickens’ classic novel. So, unless the production company chooses to expand its original plans with the show and turn it into a multi-season project, season 2 is unlikely to happen.
The cast includes Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Jack Dawkins / the Artful Dodger, David Thewlis as Fagin, and Maia Mitchell as Lady Belle Fox. Some of the other members of the cast are Damon Herriman, Miranda Tapsell, Huw Higginson, Susie Porter, Damien Garvey, Andrea Demetriade, Jessica De Gouw, Kym Gyngell, Luke Carroll Tim Minchin, Lucy-Rose Leonard, Jude Hyland, Nicholas Burton, and more.
Why The Artful Dodger Season 2 might not be happening

“In 1850s Australia, in the lively colony of Port Victory, Jack Dawkins aka The Artful Dodger, has transferred his fast fingers as a pickpocket to the nimble skilled fingers of a surgeon. Dodger’s past returns to haunt him with the arrival of Fagin, luring him back into a world of crime. A greater threat – to Dodger’s heart – is Lady Belle, the Governor’s daughter, determined to become the colony’s first female surgeon.”
