Art, Music, & More: Panoply returns to Downtown Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Art, music and more are coming to Big Spring Park as Panoply returns for its 42nd year.

With local bands, an array of artists and kid-friendly activities, the festival is perfect for families and art collectors alike.

Panoply opens its gates at 5 p.m. Friday. More than a hundred artists will be selling everything from paintings and photos to wood carvings and glassware.

“You will find something you will fall in love with whether its art or a new band, a favorite food truck,” Arts Huntsville Communications and Special Projects Manager Amy Jones said. “Come with an open mind to experience it all.”

Visitors can expect food and performances from more than 30 local musicians. STEAM-based activities will merge education with creativity to keep families busy.

For the first time, an interactive art exhibit entitled “The Big Swim” will be open to festivalgoers. The Zen Zone is a space making sure Panoply is inclusive for all of its visitors.

“For the festival goers with sensory needs, we have a place to go that gives them the resources they need so they can enjoy the festival experience even with those sensory needs,” Jones said.

Panoply day passes will be sold at the gate for $15. You can also buy a weekend pass for $20, but they are only available online until Friday.

The event often attracts thousands of people to Downtown Huntsville, and the city plans to open several spots for parking for visitors. Garage M has an entrance on Church Street, and Garage B can be found on Fountain Circle. Lot V on Clinton Avenue and Lot K across from the Clinton Avenue Post Office will be open for overflow parking.

Entrance to these garages and lots will be $5. Parking attendants will accept credit and debit cards.

Those going are encouraged to bring a folding chair or blanket. You’re also allowed strollers and wagon, and festival planners say sunscreen and hats are a great idea. You’ll want to leave your coolers and pets at home.
