Sep. 19—TIFTON — Tiftarea patrons of the arts will have the opportunity to see the works of one of the most famous Dutch artists at an an exhibit across the globe this Thursday—all without leaving the Syd.

The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center will be hosting a showing of "Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition," a filmed viewing of an exhibition of the works of Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer, Sep. 21.

Viewers will be taken on a tour through the exhibition, free of bustling crowds and white noise, to sample the work as if it were right in front of them. The film will also include discussion and commentary from the exhibit's curator.

Vermeer is regarded as one of the most well-known Dutch artists, famous for his introverted and personal interior scenes and use of colorful lighting, as well as his most iconic piece, "The Girl with the Pearl Earring."

Touted as the greatest collection of his work, the exhibition premiered at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam last spring, but immediately sold out.

"Even if you could have booked a ticket to Amsterdam, unless you got your ticket early, you weren't going to get in," said Kathy Fell, arts education chair for the Tifton Council for the Arts. "This is just a great treat for South Georgia and Tifton patrons of the arts, to be able to see this exhibit."

The showing will be completely free to the public, and will begin the evening of Sep. 21 at 7:30 p.m., and is expected to conclude around 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit the website of the Tifton Council for the Arts, or contact (229)382-3600.
