Army Guards Johannesburg Hospital Amid Unrest

As looting and unrest continued in South Africa, a number of army personnel guarded the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital, the country’s largest, on July 14.

Local journalist Silindelo Masikane captured video of the scenes outside the building, in Johannesburg.

According to the hospital authorities, the number of patients arriving at the emergency ward had tripled as a result of the unrest.

Figures provided by the South African government on Tuesday said at least 72 people were killed, and 1,234 arrested during the unrest, which was prompted by the jailing of former President Jacob Zuma. Credit: Silindelo Masikane via Storyful
