Armie Hammer's apparent short-term engagement has come to an end.

On Thursday, a woman named Marina Gris shared on her Instagram Story that she and Hammer, 37, broke up and ended an engagement after he appeared to propose to her back in October.

"It's with a reflective heart that I announce the end of my journey with Armie, a chapter that's been deeply personal and warmly significant in my life and closed a month ago," Gris wrote in her Instagram Story.

Addressing the sexual assault allegations previously made against the actor, she wrote, "Before you send me another unpleasant message: I am aware of the conversations and stories circulating around about him. It's important for me to state that my personal experiences with Armie were positive and in no way reflective of these allegations."

"I speak only from my perspective and my experiences and am not responsible for any of his past, current and future relationships," she added, noting that she felt the pair's relationship "was a space where I felt deeply appreciated, supported, loved and understood."

"I know him as a gentleman in every sense of the word," Gris wrote of Hammer.

A representative for Hammer did not immediately return PEOPLE's request for comment Thursday.

PEOPLE previously confirmed that the Call Me By Your Name actor reached a settlement in his divorce from ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers in June 2023.

"Our decision to get married and plans for a future together were rooted in strength, encouragement, and deep mutual care," Gris wrote in the Instagram Story statement. "The decision to part ways, though tough, was carried out with grace and respect, marking a beautiful end to our shared journey."

Gris previously shared photos of what appeared to be an engagement ring and her sitting with a man who appears to be Hammer on Instagram in October 2023. "I said 'What is it, silly question day, American?'👰‍♀️🥹" she wrote in a caption to the post at the time.

Though Hammer does not follow her on his verified Instagram account, she does follow him, and the actor commented on a post Gris shared in October 2023 showing a bouquet of flowers and a handwritten note he appeared to send her.

"I love my little RM…" he wrote in a comment, in response to Gris' caption that he is "the most amazing human I’ve ever met and that has ever existed."

It is unclear when Gris and Hammer may have began dating. Shortly after PEOPLE confirmed his divorce settlement from Chambers, 41, the actor was seen spending time in Santa Margherita, Italy, with a woman TMZ identified as his ex-girlfriend Lisa Perejma.

Hammer has faced a number of sexual assault allegations in recent years. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE in May 2023 that it would not charge him with sexual assault following an investigation into an alleged 2017 sexual assault that began in March 2021.

Since Hammer's divorce settlement, he has stayed out of the spotlight, but he notably returned to Instagram in November with a series of posts. He most recently shared a photo showing himself sitting with a group of people on Nov. 21, writing in a caption, "Thankful for cousin time!"
