Man Arrested Outside Brett Kavanaugh’s House Charged With Attempted Murder

A man who said he wanted to kill Brett Kavanaugh was arrested near the Supreme Court justice’s home, multiple outlets reported on Wednesday.
The Justice Department has now announced that Nicholas John Roske, 26, has been charged with attempted murder.

Roske was apprehended on a street near Kavanaugh’s home in Montgomery County, Maryland, outside of Washington, D.C. just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday. He was carrying with him, according to the Justice Department, “a black tactical chest rig and tactical knife, a pistol with two magazines and ammunition, pepper spray, zip ties, a hammer, screwdriver, nail punch, crow bar, pistol light, duct tape, hiking boots with padding on the outside of the soles, and other items.”
Roske allegedly said he had traveled from California to Maryland to kill the Supreme Court justice. He was reportedly upset that Kavanaugh signed onto the leaked draft of the Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, as well as the rash of mass shootings throughout the United States.
The leaked opinion on reproductive rights spurred protests across the nation, including at the homes of some conservative justices. The Justice Department announced last month that it would be provide “around-the-clock security” at the homes of all nine justices. “The rise of violence and unlawful threats of violence directed at those who serve the public is unacceptable and dangerous to our democracy,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.
